GOVIN stands for GOmantak Vishwa Integrated development eNvironment. The GOVIN Education Browser is an AI-enabled digital learning ecosystem developed under the Coding And Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme
Goa’s Project Director at the Project Management Unit (PMU), Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Dr. Vijay Borges, takes us inside GOVIN Education Browser — a unique AI-enabled platform designed to supplement classroom learning.
Q. GOVIN sounds rather futuristic. What exactly is it?
A. GOVIN stands for GOmantak Vishwa Integrated development eNvironment. The GOVIN Education
Browser is an AI-enabled digital learning ecosystem developed under the Coding And Robotics Education in
Schools (CARES) Scheme. CARES as an umbrella initiative of Goa state aims to promote Computational
Design and Mathematical Thinking Skills among its participants.
GOVIN Education Browser is a integrating learning environment that brings together coding, robotics,
artificial intelligence, educational content, simulations, and other learning tools for learners, right from
school to higher education.
GOVIN is Goa’s contribution to the technology-led education of masses.
Q. Do you have to be a coding whiz to use it?
A. Not at all. GOVIN Education Browser demystifies learning in a fun and friendly way. It caters to the needs
of the education-domain stakeholders, by keeping learners as its primary focus. Through a seamless
integration of various environments such as Scratch, Python, and C/C++; learners can also explore
simulation environments for Physics, Electronics and Mathematics, allowing them to learn by exploration
rather than simply reading about concepts.
Q. Is there an AI teacher hiding inside GOVIN Browser?
A. There is an AI learning assistant called Sahayak bhAI. Sahayak bhAI is designed as a fun and interactive
learning platform that helps learners understand concepts, solve problems, and learn programming.
It provides personalised learning pathways and real-time assistance, giving learners the flexibility to learn at
their own pace.
Q. Does AI help teachers as well?
A. Absolutely. PRASHAN Nidhi is an AI-based question-paper generator that creates assessments aligned
with competency frameworks.
Then there is BahuBhashi, another AI-powered tool that helps teachers create multilingual audio-visual
Teaching-Learning Materials in national as well as international languages.
The PRERNA EMS removes the drudgery out of the life of a teacher by providing them an intuitive courses
repository, student attendance, evaluation, certificate generation and generating various outcomes-based
reports.
Q. What if a student is more comfortable learning in another language?
A. As mentioned earlier, GOVIN Browser supports multiple languages, including regional languages such as
Konkani, Hindi and Marathi, as well as foreign languages such as German, French, Spanish, etc.BahuBhashi, its AI-based multilingual audio-video translation tool, can create educational content in
different regional/ foreign languages, making learning more accessible, particularly for students from
non-English-speaking homes.
Q. With so much happening on the platform, who keeps track of everything?
A. That’s the job of PRERNA Educational Management System (EMS). It brings together the functions of an
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Learning Management System (LMS) and Content
Management System (CMS).
It supports academic administration, assessments, progress tracking, and project portfolios.
Then, there is also RACHITI, a data analytics tool that maps learning outcomes and students’ skill
progression. Its dashboards help teachers, administrators, and policymakers to make sense of educational
data, track progress, and generate reports.
And there’s a more playful, fun side too — leaderboards, coding contests, bootcamps, and competitions are
built into the ecosystem to encourage students to actively participate.
Q. If students can explore freely, can they simply jump from one module to anything they fancy?
A. GOVIN Education Browser’s philosophy is certainly about giving learners the freedom to explore.
The platform uses a learning-credit system that governs access to modules, helping students, educators,
teachers, self-learners, and hobbyists progress through their teaching/ learning journey in a more
structured manner.
Q. So GOVIN Education Browser isn’t simply another website filled with lessons?
A. The bigger idea behind GOVIN Education Browser is to bring learning, coding, assessment, progress
tracking, and educational content together in a single environment — taking students from enrolment
through the learning journey and ultimately towards measurable learning outcomes.
And there is much more beyond the screen. I would encourage your readers to explore GOVIN
