CBSE has decided that from the 2026-2027 academic year under NEP children in standard six will now have 3 languages under the three language formula to promote multilingualism. English can be a foreign option.

Suvarna Gomes, a parent said, “my child goes to the Goa board. Here children have compulsorily three languages always, so maybe this is for those outside. It is good as our children learn the importance of being able to speak in different languages, especially in a tourism state like Goa.“ Clive Lobo, an 8th grade student said “what’s new, we have been studying three languages since a long time. Good that others are learning from us” these statements go on to show how the Goa state board has always made three languages compulsory and how CBSE is now incorporating this. In Goa, there is a choice for foreign languages such as Portuguese and French, and also for regional Languages such as Konkani, Marathi and Sanskrit. English and Hindi have always been a non-optional aspect.
Jemimah Sequeira takes Portuguese Classes at home says, “All my students are from the Goa Board, so I don’t really see anything knew. I dint know that CBSE dint follow a similar rule but it’s good to know now they will, as in today’s world knowing languages is very important to communicate. Before people used to know more than 4 languages. Manohar Rai Sardesai knew around 7 languages.”
