Why is this important? Many babies in South Asia die in their first month—about 1500 every day. Worldwide, 2.3 million newborns die each year, and about 15% are due to infections like sepsis.
Experts say that 6 out of 10 of these deaths can be prevented if hospitals provide safe, clean, and careful care. This means safe deliveries, good hygiene, vaccines, and proper oxygen. Patient safety must begin with a child’s first breath.
