What is Neet? – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

To be a doctor in India, you must study in a medical college but to get there, you must answer NEET first. It is the doer way to all medical courses and programmes.

Dr Vaibhav Dukle (MBBS, MD, DNB) explains, “NEET is a universal exam across India. Before, we had our own exams. I feel it is a good step as it leads to standardization.” He shares that for MBBS, students must prepare in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. He also points out that there are different NEET levels, including one for post-graduation. According to him, strong basics from Class 10 or 11 and proper guidance are very important.
Recent the NTA released the new guidelines for those who want to answer Neet. Live screening and and Aadhar checks will be done to protect and maintain discipline among students. This year in May the exam will decide the fate of so many aspiring doctors.

Dr Parul Dubey (DM Neurology, MD Medicine, MBBS) supports such measures. “When people become dishonest, rules have to harden,” she says. She explains that while NEET helps filter students, it does not test everything. Medical life demands resilience, emotional strength and compassion. “Communication is a very important part of medical practice. One has to be kind and humane,” she adds.

Debadreeta Dey, a 4th year MBBS student in AIIMS Kalyani, said that “NEET is just the beginning of our journey.” “The real challenges begin after entering medical college, with long duty hours, continuous exams and lifelong learning.” How do you know you want to become a doctor? You must “understand both the pros and cons of the profession before choosing it. If you truly have the passion and empathy to serve patients, you will find happiness in this field,” she shares.

You can clear NEET with a good memory, and open your door to become a doctor. But how can you actually be a good doctor? – Discipline, Honesty, Dedication and a true caring heart.
