South Goa’s cultural hub, Ravindra Bhavan in Margao, successfully hosted the second edition of the Goa Book Fair, reinforcing its reputation as the “Athens of Goa.†Held from January 4th to 8th, 2024, the annual literary event delivered on its promise, offering an enriching experience for book lovers of all ages.
The book fair was organized by The Dogears Bookshop, Margao, in collaboration with publishers and booksellers from across the country. Building on the success of its inaugural edition in February 2023, this year’s fair attracted an enthusiastic crowd, featuring a vast collection of books catering to diverse readers, from general audiences to children. Participating publishers included HarperCollins India, Wonder House Books, Janchetna Books, Vishwakarma Publications, Sahitya Akademi, and many more.

Under the leadership of Shri Rajendra Talak, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, the venue has become a thriving center for multicultural events, with the Goa Book Fair adding yet another literary dimension to its vibrant calendar. Mr. Talak noted that…

Running daily from 10 AM to 8 PM, the fair invited visitors to immerse themselves in literature through engaging sessions, book readings, discussions, and workshops. Leonard Fernandes, co-founder of The Dogears Bookshop and one of the key organizers, highlighted the fair’s commitment to fostering a love for books and reading, particularly among younger audiences. Schools were encouraged to participate actively, making the event an educational and literary celebration.
As the only event of its kind in Goa, the book fair provided a crucial platform for publishers nationwide to connect with Goa’s discerning readership. This year, with an expanded selection of genres and languages, attendees enjoyed a broader and more diverse literary landscape. Queenie Rodrigues, co-founder of The Dogears Bookshop, emphasized the fair’s role in bridging the gap between publishers and Goa’s vibrant reading community.
The event offered an exciting program schedule designed for both adults and children, featuring a wide range of books in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and self-help, along with selections in English, Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada. The fairgrounds included a Reader’s Pavilion and a Children’s Pavilion, ensuring an engaging experience for all visitors.

The Goa Book Fair 2024 celebrated the joy of reading and the cultural richness books bring to our lives. As attendees explored its literary treasures, the event left an indelible mark, reinforcing the power of books in shaping minds and communities.

Sacred Architecture
The languages only differ in their grammar, their pronunciation and their most common words. Everyone realizes why a new common language would be desirable: one could refuse to pay expensive translators.
  • To achieve this, it would be necessary to have uniform grammar, pronunciation and more common words.
  • If several languages coalesce, the grammar of the resulting language is more simple and regular than that of the individual languages.
The new common language will be more simple and regular than the existing European languages. It will be as simple as Occidental.
