Every August 13, World Left-Handers Day reminds us that around one in 10 people write with their left hand. But in school, being a left-handed student can sometimes feel like an Olympic event!
Dear Diary,
I think my school has a secret rule: “Righties Welcome. Lefties… Good Luck!” Every morning, I battle desks that seem determined to elbow me off the page. By lunchtime, my hand has proudly smudged half my notebook, making my best handwriting look like modern art. The classroom scissors? They clearly dislike left-handed people. Even my friends stare when we bump elbows while writing. Then comes the funniest question ever: “Can’t you just use your right hand?” Sure! And penguins can probably fly! But being a lefty isn’t all bad. We left-handed students belong to a pretty cool club with inventors, artists, sportspersons and world leaders. We may write differently, but we dream just as big. So, dear righties, this World Left-Handers Day, try writing one paragraph with your left hand. If your letters look like a spider danced across the page, welcome to our world! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with another right-handed desk.
