The school bell rang after a long break across Goa. The classrooms were filled with noise again. Children came in wearing new rainy sandals, new umbrellas, new raincoats. New books came in April, while lessons resumed.
Rahul Naik a class 7th student from Don Bosco High School was excited to be back at school. “I missed my friends! I was so excited!!! We finally played football for interval”
For Naseema Shaikh, school felt different. “ I never stopped studying since April! Everyday I would study at home. It’s stressful this year as I’m in the 10th standard. But I’m happy to be back as Shruti teacher is there. She explains maths problems nicely”.
However Tina and Supriya, grade 5 students from Little Flower of Jesus High School, were not so happy to be back. “I used to play the whole day” says Tina. “Now we’ll have to play in the evening only”. Neighbours and classmates, they both went to summer camp and enjoyed their days together.
The children across the state are now back to a routine life of timetables and tuitons.
