We humans enter every new year with big ideas. “Gym from tomorrow.” “Eat clean.” “Be nicer.” And then January ends, and we’re staring at a cheesecake like it personally cheated on us.

But here’s a gentler thought for 2026: before we promise the world, can we just look around our own street?

There’s a stray dog wagging at every passerby like he’s the brand ambassador of optimism — even though he doesn’t know where dinner will come from. There’s a child at the traffic signal who smiles with the confidence of a CEO, offering balloons as if they’re shares in a billion–dollar company. There’s a senior citizen sitting quietly on a garden bench, whose best friend might just be the pigeons because at least they turn up every morning.

And while we scroll reels of “life hacks,” the Earth herself is crying: forests chopped for malls, rivers treated like garbage bins, oceans swallowing plastic like bad medicine. We call this “civilisation.” She calls it, “beta, please stop.”

They are innocent — created by the same God, not here to audition for survival.

So may 2026 not be about New Year resolutions, but New Year redistributions — of food, of warmth, of compassion.

A biscuit for a dog. A sandwich for a child. A shawl for an elder. A tree for the planet.

Kindness doesn’t need a calendar. It only needs a moment — and a heart that remembers to beat for someone else.
