CBSE opens 2026 private exam applications till Sept 30
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has begun the online submission of examination forms for private candidates of Class 10 and Class 12 for the 2026 board exams. The process started on September 9, 2025.
Important Dates
Last date without late fee: September 30, 2025
With late fee: October 3 to October 11, 2025
(As per CBSE’s official circulars, no applications will be accepted after October 11, 2025.)
Who Can Apply
CBSE has specified the following categories of private candidates eligible to appear:
Compartment: Students who could not pass in the main examination.
Improvement: Students who passed in the immediate previous exam but want to improve their performance.
Failures: Students who were unable to pass in the main or subsequent compartment exams.
Additional Subject: Students who passed earlier and now wish to take an additional non-practical subject.
Application Process
Private candidates must apply only through the CBSE online portal: https://cbseit.in/cbse/web/pvtform
The process requires entering previous exam details, choosing the correct category, and submitting the application online.
Examination Fee
The examination fee varies depending on the number of subjects and the candidate’s category, as outlined in CBSE’s official fee schedule. Students applying after September 30 will also need to pay a late fee, as notified by CBSE.
Why This Matters
The private candidate system ensures that students who could not clear their exams, or who wish to improve, still have the opportunity to appear for CBSE board examinations and continue their academic journey.
